Get Proper Sleep: Understanding Sleep Chemicals and My #1 TIP for Better Sleep

Along with food, getting adequate sleep is equally important. I know that's nothing new and you probably already knew that, but I want to share a little science behind sleep, plus my # tip to get in a better sleep moving forward.

We all live according to our circadian rhythm, a near 24-hour internal clock that controls how our body’s functions change throughout the day. Your cognition, metabolism, sleep-wake cycle, and many other functions all follow a circadian rhythm. Therefore, maintaining a consistent circadian rhythm is essential for general health. And not getting enough quality sleep can affect your physical and mental well-being.

For example, sleep controls your stress hormones and maintains your nervous system health. So not getting enough sleep can affect your body’s ability to regulate stress hormones, and can lead to high blood pressure. Yikes!

Here’s My #1 tip for better sleep:

HYDRATION! Did you know that drinking enough water every day is crucial for many reasons- sleep being one? Water helps to regulate body temperature, keep joints lubricated, prevent infections, deliver nutrients to cells, and keep organs functioning properly. Being well-hydrated also improves your quality of sleep, mental cognition, and mood!

So drink up throughout your day, get to bed, and let me know if you notice a difference.

Sweet Dreams xo
